Guangdong is a Chinese province on the South China Sea coast of the People's Republic of China. Formerly romanised as Canton or Kwangtung, Guangdong surpassed Henan and Sichuan to become the most populous province in China. Its capital, Guangzhou, sits within its industrial Pearl River Delta region. Guangdong also hosts the largest import and export fair in China called the 'Canton Fair' in Guangdong's capital city. The food and language of the area are still known as Cantonese. Much of what is associated with overseas Chinese food and culture has its origins here.
